?

So you?ve made the decision to start an online business?

Ready to work when you want to?

Be your own boss?

Take breaks when you want?

Create your own empire?

Good for you!

It?s a great endeavor to actually create your own future.? But in creating your own future, you are also responsible for an endless array of tasks.? Some of them on a daily basis, some you?ve heard of, some you?ve probably never heard of.

Fortuntately, there is an easier way to get started online.

online_business_successI?m ?no guru and certainly don?t profess to be, but over the course of my 2+ years online, there are a few things that I?ve discovered that really are the cornerstone for online business success. ?And they are what I like to call my recipe for online success:

Creating a product is the first component of online business success. ?Why? ?Because your product is what starts the ball rolling on your online business. ?(For lack of a better way of saying it)

By creating a product or service, you are essentially providing entertainment and/or solving a problem.

Did you catch that?

By creating a product or service, you are providing entertainment and/or solving a problem.

I know what your next statement will be?

But I have never/don?t know/can?t create a product of my own!

Yes, you can.

Just trust me on this one, yes, you can!

The ins and outs of product creation is not hard. ?I will not cover all of it here (we have more things to get to), but here is a short lesson:

  • Find a hungry market ? and I mean hungry, yearning for answers to their problems
  • What are the problems that you can solve?
  • Write, record, create something to sell to them answering their most pressing problems.
  • Offer it for sale

This is a short lesson ? I cover it more here.

The Second Ingredient: Technical

The technical side is where most people stick a toe in and go running for the hills.? It?s juts too hard, there is too much to learn, there is no way I can code.

Yes, when you put it that way, it is way too hard!

Let?s look at it in a more simple way though?

What do you need to get started online?

A domain name is number 1 ? you can?t set up your piece of internet real estate without one.

A hosting account ? this is how you get your domain online.

A product or service ? you gotta have something to sell, right?

A web page to sell from.

A way to accept payments ? Paypal, anyone?

That?s about it for technical.

Now, I agree that it?s much easier said than done.? But guess what ? I am not a technical person either and I have done every step of this process and then some.? I am still alive and kicking and actually smarter for it.

The Third Ingredient: Copywriting

If you can write it, they will come.? If you can?t, they won?t.

That?s a pretty stiff statement, but one that has more truth to it than anyone dares to acknowledge.

Copywriting is an art; it?s an art form that takes everyday words and phrases and pieces them together to make them SELL!

It is much different than any other form of writing as the main function of copywriting is to SELL!

Imagine you are on a hot, white sand covered beach.? The temperate is warm and the water is even warmer.? You pick up the drink menu and see 3 wonderful drinks.? Each one of them has some really compelling copy describing in detail the drinks.

The first one describes a citrus-flavored beverage with a cool, refreshing tingle of lime that makes your taste buds pop!

The second one takes the flavor of coffee and infuses it with a light burst of cocoa poured over ice, accented with a sugar coated stir stick.

The third one is a diet coke.? What can you say about diet coke?? A refreshing blend of sweet and bubbly, this drink will keep your waistline slim and trim, while you bask in the sun.? (And I didn?t even mention that it only has 4 calories, compared to the fancy drinks, which probably have 400!)

So see, copywriting is nothing more than taking something ordinary or even extraordinary and making it tempt and make the reader want it even more.

Copywriting is selling and it is essential to your online success.

The Fourth Ingredient: Traffic

No matter what you are doing online, you need traffic.

Setting up a blog?? You need traffic.

Selling your own products?? You need traffic.

Even asking a question on a forum?? You need traffic to answer it!

Every aspect of every online business owner?s business revolves around traffic and getting more of it.

The good thing is that there are many, many ways of getting traffic.

The bad news is that there are so many ways that you will lose your mind trying to look at them all.

Traffic falls into 2 categories: free and paid. ?There are an endless supply of free methods, which I?ve described here and here. ?Then some paid methods are detailed here as well.

A good piece of news regarding traffic, it gets easier to determine what methods work better for you after you?ve tested a few out.

Testing is the name of the game.? Once you have your product or service completed, you will need to test it out by sending some traffic to it. ?Which bring us to the last ingredient?

The Fifth Ingredient: Conversions

There is a saying that content is king.? Well here?s another one for you? Conversions are king!

Conversions are the stuff the green is made of (money!)

All the copywriting, product creation, traffic and techie stuff can only go so far ? you gotta have conversions or you?ll go broke.

I saved the topic of conversions for last because it is the toughest of the 5 ingredients and because it will be a continual learning process from here on out.

No matter how much you read or how many courses you purchase, you will not fully understand conversions until you see for yourself on your own marketing efforts.

There will come a day, maybe tomorrow, maybe in a few weeks, but the time will come when you have done everything you can for your product and you are ready to start sending traffic to it.

Here are a few very basic ways to decide what to do when you start sending traffic:

  • If you get lots of clicks to your offer, but no sales, you need to work on your copy.
  • If you get some sales (meaning a few), then you still need to tweak your copy.
  • If you get lots of sales, you still need to tweak and test your copy to make it even better.

See a pattern here?

It?s all about the copy!

Final Thoughts

Between reading and researching, and eventually doing, starting your online business can be a very daunting task. ?Fortunately, it is much easier with the right ingredients in place.

Start with your own product. ?Regardless of what it is ? a service, an eBook, a video, an audio, coaching, software, etc. creating something to sell is the starting point for online success.

Then get technical (or outsource this).

Work on your copywriting skills ? practice, practice, practice!

Use paid traffic to gauge conversions, then free methods for long term.

And last, tweak your copy till it converts!

Follow this and you have a recipe for online business success!

?

Let me know your thoughts ? is it worth a share?
