My Nutrition Challenge ? Week 13, hello weights, goodbye period ...

Today was the first day I tried a bit of weight training since completely burning out at the start of the year.? Not sure how I feel about it, time will tell over the next 24 hours.? Mental state is ok, felt a bit lightheaded (nothing too major) and a bit blurgh for about 20 minutes.? But I seem to have come right now, which is a vast improvement on a 20 minute session I tried to do 10 weeks ago.

I picked 5 of my favourite exercises and did 2 circuit rounds, a total 20 minute workout including a 3 minute rest between each circuit.? I think that was enough for my recovering nervous system for one day.? I always encourage my burnt out or stressed clients to listen to their bodies and their minds over the 24 hour period following an exercise session to assess whether it was suitable for their nervous system or not.? They?re also instructed to spend 5-10 minutes after? their workout doing some nervous system rebalancing which can include deep breathing and/or meditation, stretching or anything else similar and calming.? I took my own advice and did 5 minutes of diaphragmatic breathing in Savasana (corpse pose).? And the next most important thing was to have some nourishing food to help calm the body out of it?s cortisol high.? I made a tasty Oxtail Soup and had that.? Now, I wait to see how my sleep goes tonight (it?s usually pretty good) and how I feel tomorrow.? If all is well, then I will add a Tuesday weights session to my Monday Pilates and Thursday Tai Chi.

?and so on it goes, step by step until I?m back into full training?whatever that entails for my constitution.

Too often we train the same no matter how we feel with no regard for how our nervous system is dealing with it and how our hormones are going to respond.? This is just madness.? Greater health gains come from an optimised anabolic rebound, and there isn?t anyway to rebound if you?re in a constant state of catabolism through excessive overload.

This month I am happy to announce my 2nd pain free period in a row!!? Yay!!!? It shows that all the re-balancing work I?m doing is working well.? I can?t tell you how happy I am to not go through the pain that I used to.? We?re talking some serious problems here that including crazy low blood pressure, stabbing pains that would last 2 or so hours and nausea.
