Sounds very interesting, I may just have to start up a character. :) Perhaps I'll reserve an angel, if you don't mind, and I'll get to the sheet within the day. -- Have some other stuff to accomplish, so apologies, life can become quite tedious at times... >.>

Only after the world is set ablaze may people finally see the light...

Meditation appears to produce enduring changes in emotional processing in the brain

ScienceDaily (Nov. 12, 2012) ? A new study has found that participating in an 8-week meditation training program can have measurable effects on how the brain functions even when someone is not actively meditating. In their report in the November issue of Frontiers in Human Neuroscience, investigators at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), Boston University (BU), and several other research centers also found differences in those effects based on the specific type of meditation practiced.

"The two different types of meditation training our study participants completed yielded some differences in the response of the amygdala -- a part of the brain known for decades to be important for emotion -- to images with emotional content," says Ga?lle Desbordes, PhD, a research fellow at the Athinoula A. Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging at MGH and at the BU Center for Computational Neuroscience and Neural Technology, corresponding author of the report. "This is the first time that meditation training has been shown to affect emotional processing in the brain outside of a meditative state."

Several previous studies have supported the hypothesis that meditation training improves practitioners' emotional regulation. While neuroimaging studies have found that meditation training appeared to decrease activation of the amygdala -- a structure at the base of the brain that is known to have a role in processing memory and emotion -- those changes were only observed while study participants were meditating. The current study was designed to test the hypothesis that meditation training could also produce a generalized reduction in amygdala response to emotional stimuli, measurable by functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI).

Participants had enrolled in a larger investigation into the effects of two forms of meditation, based at Emory University in Atlanta. Healthy adults with no experience meditating participated in 8-week courses in either mindful attention meditation -- the most commonly studied form that focuses on developing attention and awareness of breathing, thoughts and emotions -- and compassion meditation, a less-studied form that includes methods designed to develop loving kindness and compassion for oneself and for others. A control group participated in an 8-week health education course.

Within three weeks before beginning and three weeks after completing the training, 12 participants from each group traveled to Boston for fMRI brain imaging at the Martinos Center's state-of-the-art imaging facilities. Brain scans were performed as the volunteers viewed a series of 216 different images -- 108 per session -- of people in situations with either positive, negative or neutral emotional content. Meditation was not mentioned in pre-imaging instructions to participants, and investigators confirmed afterwards that the volunteers had not meditated while in the scanner. Participants also completed assessments of symptoms of depression and anxiety before and after the training programs.

In the mindful attention group, the after-training brain scans showed a decrease in activation in the right amygdala in response to all images, supporting the hypothesis that meditation can improve emotional stability and response to stress. In the compassion meditation group, right amygdala activity also decreased in response to positive or neutral images. But among those who reported practicing compassion meditation most frequently outside of the training sessions, right amygdala activity tended to increase in response to negative images -- all of which depicted some form of human suffering. No significant changes were seen in the control group or in the left amygdala of any study participants.

"We think these two forms of meditation cultivate different aspects of mind," Desbordes explains. "Since compassion meditation is designed to enhance compassionate feelings, it makes sense that it could increase amygdala response to seeing people suffer. Increased amygdala activation was also correlated with decreased depression scores in the compassion meditation group, which suggests that having more compassion towards others may also be beneficial for oneself. Overall, these results are consistent with the overarching hypothesis that meditation may result in enduring, beneficial changes in brain function, especially in the area of emotional processing."

Eric Schwartz, PhD, of the BU Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Center for Computational Neuroscience and Neural Technology, is senior author of the Frontiers in Human Neuroscience report. Additional co-authors are Lobsang T. Negi, PhD, and Thaddeus Pace, PhD, Emory University; Alan Wallace, PhD, Santa Barbara Institute for Consciousness Studies; and Charles Raison, MD, University of Arizona College of Medicine. The study was supported by grants from the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, including an American Recovery and Reinvestment Act grant to Boston University.

Should I Be Friends With My Ex After The Break Up? - The Truth

Should I Be Friends With My Ex After The Break Up? - The Truth

Not only is friendship with your ex an attractive proposition because this person knows you incredibly well and understands where you're coming from, but in large part they've become your primary support network. They're the person that you turned to first in case of trouble, and without that feeling of security, life can seem rather bleak. Friendship in theory allows that bond to continue indefinitely, just with a different name. Unfortunately, though, things don't always go according to plan.

When a relationship begins going south, it's normal to look for other options that can prevent the pain associated with a complete disassociation. The prospect of a friendship is tempting for multiple reasons - especially if that's how you and your ex first began your time together. Friendship seems like a viable option when it's how things initially began, and it's often the first go-to plan when faced with the possibility of watching a person you're incredibly close to walk out of your life for good.

You're not the only couple in the world to give the whole friendship thing a try when a romance turns sour. In fact, a lot of couples try to give it a whirl. For a while, it seems like the perfect arrangement. Sure, it's not sunshine and rainbows all of the time, but what friendship ever is? You chalk it up as normal and do your best to work through the awkward moments to get to the good that is inevitably underneath.

When it comes down to brass tacks, your breakup went one of two ways. Breakups are rarely mutual decisions, and even in those rare cases, one party is typically pushing for it more than the other. Because of that, any friendship that develops is going to come with some predetermined baggage that cannot simply be swept into a corner and ignored indefinitely.

If you broke up with your ex, there's probably a nagging feeling that something isn't quite right with your "friendship". Although they're really never forthcoming with their thoughts or feelings, something may seem inherently 'off' and it's difficult to put your finger on the problem. You're picking up on the fact that they still have romantic feelings for you - and the only reason that they're willing to be your friends is to give them what they think will be the opportunity to step up and try to get your romance back, no matter the cost.

If your ex broke up with you, however, the situation is reversed but identical in theory. While your ex may be willing to move on and get on with their own lives, you're still hung up on the idea of your relationship. You can't help thinking about where things exactly went wrong, and you want to identify the problems so they can be overcome. You feel like that will inevitably lead to the return of your relationship, and it doesn't really matter what your ex has to say about it.

Regardless of which side you find yourself on, it may be clearer to you now that someone is bound to get hurt. Someone was left in the lurch when the relationship came crashing down, and that person felt the sting of rejection completely. A friendship gives that person a standby solution to avoid letting go of the person they never wanted to say goodbye to at all, and gives them even the smallest sliver of hope that things can turn around, if they can only wait it out long enough.

The Truth About Friendship and Romance:

If you're starting to recognize the fact that your feelings for your ex are still in existence, you may want to take some time to rethink your strategy for success. Are you seeing your friendship as a way of holding onto the past instead of being forced to let go? Are you looking for more than just a buddy? If so, it's time to make a change and decide to not go along with the flow where friendship is concerned and stand up for what you genuinely want.

If you seriously want your romantic relationship with your ex back, you need to do something about it. Things aren't going to change overnight, and your ex isn't likely to wake up one morning with an abrupt change of heart. If you want things to change, you need to make that change happen yourself - not simply wait for your friendship to evolve into more.

Is it Too Late to Go Back?

While there isn't a distinct line in the sand separating friendship from romance, you're sure to know if you've crossed it. There's some point in a platonic relationship where the way you view the other person changes. Once that happens, it's almost impossible to go back to where you started, which is why it's imperative that you take the chance while you still have it.

You don't want to be stuck regretting your inability to take action when you could have. If you do nothing, your former relationship is gradually going to fade into the background until it's barely something either one of you remember. The time to take action is NOW, and if you're not willing to take that step to come clean and be honest, you're not really interested in a new relationship with your ex - you're just unwilling to fully move on, and you're using them as a crutch to help you through the process indefinitely.

What To Do Next

So, should you be friends with your ex? Hopefully by now you realise that this is a bad idea if you want to win your ex back. Luckily for you there are many things that you can do to make this happen though. First off, you can understand why you were dumped. Your ex was probably not entirely honest with you about their reasons, but knowing the truth can help you set things right. You should also be looking out for the signs ex still loves you. It is important to know where you really stand after all.

Fox News Conservatives Lose Credibility

?

Fox News channel SC Fox News Conservatives Lose Credibility

Although Republican Mitt Romney lost an easily winnable election, many conservative commentators and analysts took a beating as well. They were determined to believe that Romney would win no matter what Obama threw at him. They underestimated the aggressive nature of the Obama political machine and its ability to exploit economic, class, and cultural divisions in society for political gain.

Except for Juan Williams, the liberal Fox News commentator who predicted an Obama win, the personalities on Fox News were wildly off the mark in their predictions for the election. Karl Rove, Fred Barnes, Michael Barone and Dick Morris had all predicted a Romney win. Generally speaking, they thought Republicans were more excited about Romney than Democrats were about Obama. This turned out to be a fatal miscalculation.

One of the obvious and immediate conclusions is that Romney failed to get enough of the social conservative vote. Exit polls show Obama getting more of the Catholic vote, 50 percent, than Romney, who got 48 percent. Catholics make up approximately one in four U.S. voters.

Although Catholic leaders were emphasizing the themes of ?life and liberty,? a reference to Catholic teachings being challenged by the Obama Administration?s pro-abortion mandates, Romney largely avoided the issue during the campaign. It was a strange omission. Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, said, ?The collision course of the Obama Administration with the Catholic Church could have been averted yesterday, but now it is assured instead.?

In Maryland, a very liberal state, gay marriage won, but 47 percent voted against it. That was ten points more people than voted for Romney in Maryland. He lost the state 61-37 percent. Again, reflecting his aversion to social issues, Romney stayed out of the controversy, preferring to run a campaign based almost exclusively on economics.

On the matter of the numbers alone, Juan Williams had predicted Obama winning with 298 Electoral College votes to Romney-Ryan?s 240. The total now looks like 303-206 for Obama,?though the figure is likely to rise to 332 for Obama.

On November 5, Rove, who raised $330 million for Romney, had predicted Romney winning with 285 Electoral College votes and Obama losing with 253. He said at the time that he believed that Nevada, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania were ?in play and very winnable? for Romney. ?If crowds at his recent stops in these states are any indication of his supporters? enthusiasm, Mr. Romney will likely be able to claim victory in these states as well,? he added.

In fact, Obama beat Romney by six points in Nevada, seven points in Wisconsin, and five points in Pennsylvania.

?The tie in the polls goes to the challenger,? Fred Barnes had said, in a Weekly Standard?article?headlined, ?Why Romney Will Win.? He explained, ?The Obama get-out-the-vote drive (GOTV) is not quite the powerful juggernaut it was in 2008 and the Republican effort is far better than four years ago.?

Barone, the anchor of Fox News election coverage, had?predicted?Romney winning 315 Electoral College votes and Obama only 223. ?Fundamentals usually prevail in American elections. That?s bad news for Barack Obama? most voters oppose Obama?s major policies and consider unsatisfactory the very sluggish economic recovery.?

In this Fox News?video, Barone, who is also the senior political analyst at the Washington Examiner, talked about a possible ?hidden vote? that could lead to a Romney landslide. He said the polls showing an Obama edge were characterized by a ?systemic problem? of failing to reach the actual electorate.

Morris?s prediction was Romney 325, Obama 213. ?That?s right,? Morris said. ?A landslide for Romney approaching the magnitude of Obama?s against McCain.? Obama beat McCain 53-46 percent.

In this?video?of a Morris appearance on the Fox News Greta Van Susteren show, Morris explained why he believes Mitt Romney could decisively defeat Obama and seal his fate as a one-term president. Morris said, ?In the popular vote, he [Romney] is going to win by more than five points.? He said he came to this conclusion through an analysis of how the polls were overestimating Democratic turnout. ?You have me back on the show,? Morris said. ?You hold me accountable.?

He left no room for debate. ?I?ve done this for a living,? he said, emphasizing his credentials as a political analyst.

On radio, Rush Limbaugh was convinced that more Republicans would vote for Romney in 2012 than voted for McCain in 2008, thus propelling Romney to victory over Obama. Limbaugh also emphasized that Romney was getting huge crowds at his rallies and that early voting for Romney was up. He?said, ??my thoughts, my intellectual analysis of this?factoring everything I see plus the polling data?it?s not even close. Three hundred-plus electoral votes for Romney.?

In fact, Romney got only 48 percent of the vote, just two points over McCain?s total in 2008. Romney lost his home state of Massachusetts by 61-37 percent and Wisconsin, which is Paul Ryan?s home state, by 53-46.

In the end, prominent conservative news personalities made major miscalculations about where the election was heading and the nature of the two candidates and their campaigns. As Dick Morris says, they should be held accountable.

Businesses need to take lead in branding Edmonds, destination ...

Businesses need to take lead in branding Edmonds, destination expert advises

Main Street Square in Rapid City, S.D. transformed the city?s downtown into a gathering place.

Jettison the generic.

Narrow your focus.

Be different.

Any community that wants to better market itself as a destination and increase economic development needs to stop ?trying to be all things to all people,? an expert in destination development and marketing told a group of about 125 Edmonds business owners, city officials and citizens gathered in the Wade James Theatre Thursday night.

Roger Brooks, founder of Seattle-based Destination Development International, was invited by the city?s Economic Development Department to speak, and he brought with him inspiring case studies from more than 400 communities, downtowns, and downtown districts in North America that his company considers to be well-branded and dynamic. Among them: St. Albert, outside of Edmonton, in Alberta, Canada, (population 60,000) which transformed itself from a bedroom community to a thriving ?botanic arts? city, complete with a $100 million garden center that also doubles as a conference and education center, and Jefferson, Texas (population 2,500) now known as the antique center of Texas with 125 antique dealers.

St. Albert logo reflects its ?botanic arts? branding.

During his two-and-a-half-hour presentation, Brooks talked about the ?20 ingredients of an outstanding downtown.? He started by focusing on some of the ?deadly sins of community marketing.? Among them: the temptation to fall back on the generic buzzwords ? ?explore,? discover,? historic downtown,? ?best-kept secret? and ?gateway? ? that ?could fit any community in Washington.?

?There are 546 cities and towns and villages in this state,? Brooks said. ?Competition has never been more fierce.?

He encouraged local businesses to take the lead in branding and marketing their communities, and not rely on either the city or citizen-based focus groups to lead the way. ?You cannot narrow your focus by public consent,? Brooks said. ?It needs to come from the business community.?

Roger Brooks

He also talked about the importance of preventing ?leakage? ? essentially residents spending their money outside of town ? and offered tips for encouraging both residents and visitors to spend more money and time in Edmonds.

Downtown is ?the heart and soul of every community besides its people,? Brooks said. ?If locals won?t hang out in your downtown, neither will visitors.? That doesn?t mean that other neighborhoods should be ignored, he added, but downtown needs to be the main focus. When suburban shopping malls arrived in the 1960s, everyone left downtown to shop in malls and strip malls. Now Americans are starting to move toward what Brooks described as ?the European standard? of pedestrian-focused, tree-lined streets with plazas that become community gathering places.

Among Brooks?? 20 ingredients for a successful downtown:

- Start with a plan. And Brooks stressed that it should not be a strategic plan, which he believes is a waste of time, but an action plan with a to-do list. (He was quick to note that while the City of Edmonds is just finishing up its own strategic plan, next steps call for that plan to be transformed into action steps, which is a good sign.)

- Describe a strong brand and a retail focus. Examples include the arts, sports tourism, horticulture and antiques. ?When you stand for something, all of a sudden there?s a business opportunity,? he said.

- Group like businesses together, following the 10/10/10 rule. Within three linear blocks, downtowns should have 10 restaurants, three ?destination? (non-chain or franchise) retail shops and ?at least 10 places open after 6 p.m.,? he said. ?How you doing Edmonds?? Brooks asked, referring to the fact that most city businesses are not open late into the evening, even though customers are now ?shopping later at night.? To draw shoppers, downtown businesses need to ?think and act like a mall? with consistent days and hours of operation, he said.

- Parking limits ? especially those of less than four hours ? are bad. Set aside parking lots or garages with all-day parking and let customers know where they are, Brooks advised. Angle parking increases retail spending by more than 20 percent because people hate to parallel park, and also gives you a third more parking spaces, he added.

- Ensure that public restrooms are available. ?Relieved visitors spend more.?

- Develop ?gathering places.? Brooks described this as ?the age of third places? ? referring to three places where people spend time ? work, home and ?where we go to hang out.? To attract ?a creative class you need to create third places,? he said. ?That is the future of the United States and every successful community will be built around gathering places.? Wider sidewalks and more street trees encourage retail activity, he added.

- Create a community gateway that creates a good first impression of your community. For example, he said that the ?Welcome to Edmonds? sign should be strategically placed where it will make the best impression, and that shouldn?t be next to a strip mall.

- Ensure you have good directional signage, which Brooks called a ?wayfinding system,? so that people can find their way around town.

- Make a good first impression with sidewalk cafes and outdoor dining, retail beautification and signage that describes what a business is selling rather than the business name, if it isn?t clear. ?Curb appeal can account for 70 percent of first-time sales,? Brooks said.

- Offer activities and entertainment that ?bring downtown to life.?

Brooks? presentation was videotaped and will be aired on Channel 21 in the next few days, according to Stephen Clifton, Edmonds? Director of Community Services and Economic Development. ?Many people spoke to me as they left the event and they are excited to work on enhancing our community and making it a more interesting/lively place to work, visit and live,? Clifton said.

Edmonds Mayor Dave Earling said Clifton deserves credit for bringing Brooks to Edmonds, calling the presentation ?just plain fun? and ?a terrific energy boost to the community.? Many of the elements that Brooks described are being put into place as part of the Main Street construction project between 5th and 6th Avenues, Earling added.

As for what?s next, the mayor said it should involve ?pulling together business, city and community folks who were there to see the level of interest in proceeding. I was impressed six of our council members were in attendance and those that I have spoken to liked his approach.?

While Earling was hopeful the city would be involved in such a project, he reiterated Brooks? assertion that ?the business community should lead. Personally I would be happy to be involved,? but property owners and store front leaders need to be out front.?

Which Commuter Bike is Best for you? | recreation and sports blog ...

Choosing the right commuter bike is not a decision that should be taken lightly. You'll be riding it to and from work, your butt planted in that seat and your feat cycling rapidly for - give or take - two hours a day. So there are plenty of criteria that should be taken into account when choosing the right bike. In theory, any bike is a commuter bike (as long as you're riding it to work), but not every bike is right for every commuter. So here are a few quick things you should take into account when making this decision.

First of all is terrain. How much time will you spend on pavement vs. off-road paths? How hilly is your commute? It's not a bad idea to scope out the quickest path from home to work, since this will have a huge bearing on which commuter bike you will choose. Multiple-gear bikes or bikes with multiple gears are better for hilly, off-road paths, while fixed-gear bikes work best on paved and flat paths.

You should also consider how skilled you are a biking, and how physically fit you are. People with less experience or who are more out of shape may want to consider a bike that has gears, rather than a fixed-gear bike.

Don't forget to consider how you'll be transporting all of your work stuff. You'll probably need a change of clothes, lunch, laptop computer, etc. A backpack might work, but if not you may have to consider some sort of attachment to your bike. Most styles of bike allow for an attachment, but this is definitely something you need to look into. Also, the added weight can have a big impact on your commute.

At this point you're basically left with three main choices. While road bikes are great for flat, paved rides (or even some moderate hills for the more experienced rider), mountain bikes can easily navigate off-road paths and extreme hills. There is also the commuter-specific bike that has a fixed-gear and a more relaxed seat position. There are also touring bikes, comfort bikes and hybrid cyclo-cross bikes. Each one should be researched before you come to a decision.

Crockpot Pork Posole Stew Recipe | foodiecrush

Crockpot Pork Posole Stew from foodiecrush.com

This dish is kind of like Disneyland for both the OCD list makers who obsessively plan meals weeks ahead of time, and for those of us (eh-hem, I?m using the collective ?us? so I don?t feel so alone) who somehow make their way to the grocery store before 1 p.m. to find a fresh, juicy Boston Butt ready to roast. By the way, who came up with the name Boston Butt? I feel a little like Beavis whenever I say, ?Boston Butt, hee-hee, hee-hee.? Smudge loves saying it. That?s weird. She?s eight years old. Maybe the pork-parts-namers were marketing to adults who act like 8 year old juveniles?

But I digress. This recipe is all about the low and slow and there?s not many better ways to cook it low and slow than a slllllllow cooker. Ahh, another Beavis moment, but I?ll let that one go.

Slow Cooker Pork Posole from foodiecrush.com
You know how there are some of those crock-pot recipes where you have to brown the meat prior to cooking it, and then adding it into the pot and having to go through all of the extra steps? Sometimes I think that?s just counter-crock-pot-cooking. You won?t find that in this here recipe.

Just pop the butt into the pot, toss in some onions and flavorings, cover with a lid and ba-boom, dinner is ready to roll in 5-8 hours. Once it?s all cooked up and oh so tender falling apart because it?s from the marbled ButtI like to add in some hominy, carrots, fresh cilantro leaves and a squeeze of lime. Everything tastes better with a fresh squeeze of lime and serve it up with tortillas. You know, the Mexican way.

Slow Cooker Pork Posole from foodiecrush.com

I started out this post with every intention of creating a recipe round-up to share some of my favorite pork in the crock-pot recipes. But I soon realized I was reinventing the wheel. And who really wants to do that when there?s already a fab resource that I visit for all things crock-pot where you better double up and scoot on over to do so.

If you don?t know Kalyn for her uber popular South Beach Diet-inspired blog Kalyn?s Kitchen, you should get to know her for her new blog, Slow Cooker from Scratch, where she showcases bloggers and their crock-pot recipes, sweet to savory and every Boston Butt in between.

Samsung Chromebook review (2012)

Samsung Chromebook review (2012)

Whenever we review Chromebooks, we always come to more or less the same conclusion: it's a neat idea, a computer where everything is done online, but it's not worth the money. That was back when Chrome OS devices were priced at $500, competing with netbooks that could run not just the Chrome browser, but all manner of Windows apps. Ditto for tablets, which can be tricked out with many thousands of apps on both iOS and Android.

But what if we told you the price had been slashed to $249? Then could you see yourself pulling the trigger? That's the gamble Google and Samsung are taking with the new Series 3 Chromebook, which retails for $249 with an 11.6-inch display, 6.5-hour battery and a more compact design. All told, it's as good a piece of hardware as any netbook you'll find, only cheaper. And good luck finding a tablet-and-keyboard combo for less than $250.

There is one major change this time around, though, and that's the Series 3 Chromebook's dual-core ARM processor, instead of something from Intel's Celeron family. The performance isn't likely to be as good, but will that matter if all you're running is the Chrome browser? Will the lowered price be enough to lure in parents, travelers and other folks looking for a cheap second laptop? Let's see.

xpedx celebrates four years of workplace safety | Business People

xpedx?s distribution warehouse in Fairfield recently celebrated four years without an Occupational Safety and Health Administration recordable incident. An OSHA recordable incident is a work related accident that results in the use of prescription medication, medical treatment beyond first aid, loss of consciousness, days away from work, restricted work or transfer to another job.

The milestone, which is comprised of nearly 260,000 hours without incident, is additionally impressive considering other factors that have made operations at Fairfield challenging at times. During the four-year streak, xpedx Fairfield relocated to a new building (an event that occurred injury-free), while also employing dozens of temporary workers through the stretch.

The Fairfield facility, which handles orders and distribution for national customers Toys R Us and Lowe?s, is operated by a 20-member team of employees.

The Fatty Liver Solution | No Name - Health and Beauty is Yours

The Fatty Liver SolutionReviewed by Arieftheo on Nov 6Rating:

The Fatty Liver SolutionClick Image To Visit Site"Discover: How You Too Can Finally Say Goodbye To Your Flabby Belly, Fatigue & Digestive Troubles ? Using This Totally Natural & Simple Step By Step Program"

Fatty liver disease affects a whopping 30% of the population. That?s 30 out of every 100 people! And some estimates have it at 33%.

And if you?re overweight, it?s even worse?overweight people are extremely more likely than healthy weight individuals to develop this condition.

Other fatty liver sufferers have reversed their condition, lost weight, and rediscovered their energy, using completely natural remedies. And that means you can, too!

Your doctor may not have told you this, but fatty liver disease is completely reversible in virtually every case.

And it does not require taking drugs for the rest of your life OR ?low fat? diets?despite what others may have you believe.

Mother Nature has already provided the solution to your fatty liver. And I?d love to tell you all about it. (Unless, of course, you?d rather try fruitless methods, and diets that just don?t work!)

If you?re reading this page right now, chances are either 1) you have already been diagnosed? or 2) you at least suspect you may have a fatty liver. In that case, you?re probably experiencing some of the following symptoms right now?

The good news is, these symptoms are completely reversible ? and WITHOUT resorting to prescription drugs or unrealistic diets.

I?m sure your doctor means well. Most doctors do. But they are trained in managing disease? not in managing health. Our ?modern? health care system is more like ?sick care?!

So for most doctors, their first instinct is to pick up the prescription pad and give you a pill to swallow, or, pat you on the back and say ?there is nothing I can do, go jump on a diet?. Which doesn?t help you any, just leaves you feeling more alone and incapable (and with still no solution).

This is one of many side-effects this drug induces, others include: Death, seizures, blood in urine, arm and leg swelling, muscle pain, headaches, mental changes, and many, many more.

Now, don?t get me wrong ? some medications are necessary and even helpful in saving lives. But they are designed only to mask the symptoms. Not to cure the underlying condition.

For every conceivable disease, there is an answer just waiting for us in nature. That?s why natural medicine (e.g. food, nutrition, herbal medicine) has been around for thousands of years and is the most widely used form of medicine known to man.

In many cases it provides the same degree of therapeutic value as prescription drugs?but with virtually no side effects. In fact, herbal medicine for example, is so powerful that nearly 1 in 3 prescription drugs are based on natural plant sources!

That happens to be my philosophy. You see, natural remedies usually have multiple health-boosting benefits beyond the immediate application. And that makes natural medicine the? Read more?

World's top train trips

10 hrs.

In 1829, Englishman George Stephenson brought to life the first steam-powered locomotive?named "Rocket"?and marked the birth of train travel. Fast-forward 183 years, and today?s jet-setting lives are lived at breakneck speed. One can climb aboard a Gulfstream G550 jet in Miami, Fla., and make it to Seoul, South Korea, in a bit less than 15 hours for an impromptu business meeting.

Slideshow: Check out the world's top train trips

But when it comes to luxury train travel, finding the fastest route between two points is not the goal. It is more about settling back in one?s seat and savoring the experience, one station at a time. The train trips on this list are diverse, encompassing varied cultures within epic journeys?like a four-week excursion through Africa with views of the pyramids and Victoria Falls, or a two-week Trans-Siberian sojourn through Russia that crosses eight time zones and travels a quarter of the way around the world.

Not all cover thousands of miles. Microjourneys can be just as eye-opening, such as a two-hour jaunt through Norwegian landscape on the Fl?m Railway to see the world?s deepest fjord, or a day trip through the thick, green vegetation of Peru to climb the steps of Machu Picchu. And some trips are about a sense of place, offering a comfortable feeling that you may slip into when, say, sipping?whiskey?aboard a train rolling through the Scottish Highlands. Or tasting teas and strawberries grown in the Cameron Highlands of Malaysia.

T. S. Eliot once said, ?The journey not the arrival matters.? After embarking on these train adventures, we think you?ll agree completely.
