Pippa Middleton pulls out of London Olympics role

After attracting some unwanted headlines for the behaviour of her louche friends in Paris, Pippa Middleton appears to have been persuaded to keep a low profile.

Dame Kelly Holmes announced in January that the sister of the Duchess of Cambridge would be joining forces with her charity, the Dame Kelly Holmes Legacy Trust, to help disadvantaged young people in the run-up to the London Olympics. ?Pippa is going to be doing something for my own charity leading up to the Games,? she said.

Now, however, Pippa seems to have had a change of heart. ?No, no, there are no current plans for Pippa to get involved,? Dame Kelly tells Mandrake, intriguingly.

The Duchess of Cornwall will, no doubt, accompany the Prince of Wales to events at the London Olympics, but her brother, Mark Shand, will not be fighting for tickets.

?There is only event that matters this summer,? he declared in a speech at a party in Chelsea this week. ?And that is the Queen?s Diamond Jubilee.?

The conservationist was speaking at a reception held at the home of Richard and Basia Briggs, the owners of Hyde Park Stables, to celebrate their purchase ? for ?7,000 ? of his Union flag-painted Faberg? egg for his elephant appeal.
