In what could be a case of biting the hand that feeds you, actress Jennifer Lawrence has some frank opinions to share about her craft. "Not to sound rude, but [acting] is stupid," Lawrence tells Vanity Fair in their February issue. "Everybody?s like, 'How can you remain with a level head?' And I?m like, 'Why would I ever get cocky? I?m not saving anybody?s life. There are doctors who save lives and firemen who run into burning buildings. I?m making movies. It?s stupid.'"
Lawrence, who described herself in the piece as "vastly uneducated" -- she did not attend high school -- goes into greater detail about why she decided on her "stupid" profession.
The "Hunger Games" star recalls the first time she ever read a script (for a commercial audition), and knowing then that acting is what she wanted to do.
"This is the first time I?ve ever understood anything. I was 14. And my brothers were star athletes. And one of them was a straight-A student," she told Vanity Fair. "I always felt like I sucked at everything, that I could never find the thing that I liked. I auditioned and I probably?sucked, but I had decided 100 percent that this is what I wanted to do."
One thing is certain: despite how Lawrence thinks she did on that audition, she's got chops now. Lawrence is nominated for a Golden Globe for her role in "Silver Linings Playbook." In 2011, she received both Globe and Oscar nominations for her role in "Winter's Bone."
